No Keyboard Press F1 to Continue

Keyboard failure. Press F1 to continue... >:(

FFS! It's bad enough having to deal with these carp messages at work... but on my own desktop.

I know XP is on its way out and so is this PC soon, but that message is truly NOT HELPFUL [/rant over]

    .... and breathe!

I tried the keyboard on another machine and it was fine... and my desktop is now running again... like I said the machine is on its way out

You normally get that error at boot, if the keyboard isnt connected correctly or if a key is held down for too long (the machine thinks its stuck, hence a fault)

Not sure what caused this. Nothing useful in the Event Log.

I was just using the PC and it hung. Tried a hard reboot and got the keyboard error... several times in a row. The PC and it's cabling haven't been touched in ages (I sound like a user, don't I? )

Anyway since the major pull out and vac round everything's fine now...

My PC on my desk at home.... it wasn't the actual fault that that was my issue...

It was the bl**dy stupid message telling me to press F1 having just told me the keyboard had failed...

I had a frustrating one last week. The HDD in a laptop fell over. I recovered all the data (55GB that wasn't backed up anywhere else), bar the Word file the user had open at the time of failure but I was subsequently able to extract and save most of the contents of the corrupted file later on.

I purchased a new HDD and slid Windows and everything else back on. I checked the laptop and everything was running okay. Easy job I thought.

The user then asked for some additional software, so there I was installing Dropbox and Logmein. After I'd finished I then realised the laptop was now VERY hot and I discovered that the fan had now decided to die during that session

As the laptop is four years old the user is now getting a new machine as we can't take a risk with it and I'll use it for mucking about with (I purchased a refurbished fan from eBay for 3). I just wish everything had fallen over at the same time as it would have saved me two days

I really do hate computers sometimes.

Doesn't that message come from BIOS rather than Windows?

    Which you can disable.

Open the BIOS and disable "halt on keyboard error" [It's something along those lines.]

Also, I think the error is like that so you can go get a keyboard, attach it and then press F1 to carry on.

It's still a stupid message though.
